WEB SITE MIGRATION PLANS

I personally see the web site becoming THE meeting place for the guild.  News, Guild happenings, and other information will be found here and act a resource for members and non members alike.  The site will be an evolving project that should continue as long as the guild and the internet remain active.  

MIGRATE SITE TO AMAZON WEB SERVICES

Move site, or part of site to amazon web services.  This is free for the first year, $14.95 per month after the first year.  The current site will remain up as an “acrchived site” that will still be accessible via a link that says … “Link to Old site”.  

ADD WORDPRESS TO THE WEBSITE

Migrate or add wordpres to the site. The reason being that wordpress allows multi-tiered users that can post and edit articles and make changes to allowed sections of the website without disrupting the underlying content.  It also allows new users to sign up to the site and leave an email address even if they decide not to become members (you can build a contact list).  WordPress is also used worldwide and is known for ease of use to members, and its out of the box turn key abilities via plugins and other 3rd party modules. 

The wordpress site will have menus that link to the following sub categories… 

NEWS – FRONT PAGE

This will be the front page of the site, with current news on film making, events and other items film related in the state and elsewhere that relate in some way to the guild.  The news should also reflect the facebook page, and any twitter feeds etc.

CALENDAR SECTION

A link to a calendar that shows past events and upcoming guild events.  Clicking on the calendar dates will take you to articles etc.

CONNECT THE SITE AND GUILD TO THE WEB SOCIAL NETWORKS

connect to existing and newly created social networks… Facebook, twitter, linkedin, etc.

ARTICLES

I would like to see a section on longer length articles that contain photos and indepth interviews on productions in the state, or stories about the experiences and lessons learned during guild member shoots. These can be written by guild members, (anyone really) Who wants to add to the information pool, or wants to promote their own film. 

ONLINE SCREENING ROOM

Create a screening room for officially license guild member movies and films.  These can be free for viewing, or for profit using a Dynamo Player account which can handle collecint any profit for viewed movies.  

AFFILLIATE MARKETING SALES FROM THE SITE – GOOGLE ADSENSE ETC.

Connect to Online Affiliate marketers to raise profit for the guild coffers.  These products should and will be film related items that are guild approved such as jibs, cranes, lights, cameras, other visual related products or tools used to craft films, or film apprectiaton items such as fan merchandise etc.  We should also get into adsense so that we can be paid via pay per click as well.  

SELL FILM GUILD GEAR WEAR TO MEMBERS AND NON MEMBERS

Create on Online store offering to create Film Guild Wear for sale to anyone.  The profits will go to the guild for these sales. Examples are Cafepress, which will print your for sale items with your logo on demand so no inventory is required.  THe proceeeds would go to the film guild coffers.  See sites like Cafepress.com for examples…

FILM FESTIVAL GUIDE

Create a page or listing section of regional and global film festivals such the ones in surrounding areas, contact information and links. Perhaps link festival guides from members that have particpated etc. 

ENHANCED BIO SECTION FOR FORMER AND CURRENT MEMBERS

This section will be sort of a mini IMDB guide to state film makers, guild members, and their accomplishments in their field of work.  It is to serve as inspiration for current and future film makers in the state and elsewhere.  Each member will have the ability to edit their information as needed. 

ONLINE FILM SCHOOL

Should contain articles and subsection on writing scripts, the creative process, financing films, distribution, directing, acting, editing etc. animation and Special effects.  To be built over time to allow an entry level film maker the ability to learn the craft.  It would be nice to have the articles written by film guild members and links to other places on the web to learn techniques and hone your skills.

FILM GUILD ARCHIVE

This would be a section dispalying past events, documents etc. history timeline etc.  past meetings, happenings etc.

BOARD MEMBER BACKEND SECTION – DASHBOARD

This would be guild dashboard to current board members and show important guild item that need attending, and maybe show  also show finances, web site anayltics and other information that is releveant to teh board

HOOK INTO GOOGLE ANAYLTICS

Create a google anayltics account to track who is coming to the site from where.  Easy to do, and loads of information stats from this simple process

FORUM – BULLETIN BOARD 

This would be a general film making forum bulletin board system that allows film news announcements, sales of used items, search for actors actresses etc. Would look into

links to important and relevant sites such as the WV Film Commission etc., maybe other regional film commissions etc.,

ONLINE FILM FESTIVAL/S

Ideally I would eventually like to see a video archive section of guild meetings and happenings around the state.  Also build a relationship with the Sutton festival to allow online screening of films for people that cannot make it to those events.

LOGO CONTEST

Would like to see a logo contest ASAP to promote the guild and drive membership.  I would like to specifically open this up to schools around the state to try and reach high school students and college students.  I think there should be a cash prize of maybe $100 bucks and press coverage.

GUILD PHONE SERVICES

Create a phone line for the guild, so that people may call the guild with questions etc.  I suggest for time being using Google Voice, and perhaps using an online 800 service at a later time.  This needs to be researched a bit more before a commitment is made.
